The
University of Stirling:
The
beautiful grounds of the Airthrey Estate below the Ochil Hills are the
setting for the University of Stirling, quoted as being one of the most
attractive campus site in the UK. The mature parkland with many rare
trees and shrubs is open to the public throughout the year. Overlooking
the grounds is Airthrey Castle, built in 1791 to a design by Robert Adam.
The estate around it, which the university now occupies, was originally
laid out by a pupil of 'Capability' Brown, the celebrated 18th century
landscape gardener. You can stroll around the lochs and woodland, play
golf on a neat nine hole golf course, enjoy coffee and snacks in the
cafes, browse the university bookshop, see film and performing arts at
the macrobert arts centre.
