Sherrifmuir:
Sherrifmuir is an expanse of wild hills and
moorland situated over the hill from Bridge of Allan east of Dunblane.
In November 1715 it was host to a famous battle between english
soliders and jacobite rebels. Many jacobites died on the moor and
a monument to them stands on the dunblane road. Behind the monument
is a small path leading to what
is know as the 'gathering stone', a small rock where it is said
the jacobites arranged to meet before the battle.
It's a nice
place to walk and enjoy panoramic views followed by a pint
at the
Sherrifmuir
Inn.
The area
has no public transport and is accessed by car from either bridge
of allan or dunblane, although it is possible to walk and cycle
but be warned it's mainly up hill!
