Mine
Woods:
Mine Woods are the back drop to Bridge of Allan
and are found in an area called 'upper ridge of Allan'.
The woods are on the site of an old copper
mine and many shafts and tunnels remain underneath.
The main entrance
shaft
can
still be seen, signposted from one of the many woodland paths.
The woods are of mixed deciduous trees and are used by residents
for gentle strolls
and
dog
walking.
They contain much wildlife such as rabbits, birds and it's not
un common to see a roe deer. Various paths wind around the woods
criss crossing each other some leading out to the golf course
& up to drum brae. To
walk to the woods from the centre of Bridge of Allan -
from Paterson clock walk up mine road and follow the
road round to the right going up the hill and then straight on
to the old spa building, now flats and chambo restaurant, until
you get to the foot of the
woods.
